Level 1 vs Level 2, in plain numbers

The charger that came in your trunk works. It’s just slow enough to change how you plan your week.

Level 1 — the wall outlet

Standard 120V household outlet. Roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. A full charge on an empty battery can take two to three days. Fine for a plug-in hybrid or a short commute; frustrating for anything else.

Level 2 — a dedicated 240V circuit

Roughly 25 to 40 miles of range per hour depending on the vehicle and circuit size. Empty to full overnight, every night. This is what nearly everyone with a full EV ends up installing.

Where most quotes go wrong

The load calculation comes first. Always.

An EV charger is one of the largest continuous loads a house will ever carry. Before anyone talks about brands or mounting locations, the real question is whether your electrical service can carry it.

What's included

Any major brand

Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Emporia, Grizzl-E, Wallbox, or the unit that came with your Ford, Rivian or Hyundai. Bring your own or we'll recommend one.

Hardwired or plug-in

Hardwired is cleaner and required for some higher-amperage units. A NEMA 14-50 outlet keeps the charger portable. We'll explain the tradeoff for your situation.

Permit & inspection

EV circuits require a permit in our service area. We pull it, meet the inspector, and hand you the signed paperwork.

Detached garages

Long trenched runs, subpanels in outbuildings, and shops across the yard. Distance changes the wire size, not whether it's possible.

Tidy conduit runs

Straight lines, level mounting, secured properly. Your garage shouldn't look like someone stapled an extension cord to the wall.

Two-year warranty

Workmanship warranty on the install, plus whatever the charger manufacturer covers on the hardware.

Your builder ran the conduit. Nobody finished the job.

It’s the most common EV call we get from newer neighborhoods. The builder installed an empty conduit stub and a blank plate in the garage, which counts as “EV ready” on the spec sheet but won’t charge anything.

What homeowners ask before booking

Often no. Plenty of homes with 150 or 200-amp service have room already. Even some 100-amp homes can work with a load management device that pauses charging when other big loads run. We’d rather install a $200 device than sell you a panel you don’t need. If you do need one, here’s what’s involved.

A straightforward garage install next to the panel is usually three to five hours. Long runs, detached garages or finished-wall routing take longer. We’ll tell you which yours is at the estimate.

Either way works. If you already own one, we’ll install it. If not, tell us your vehicle and whether you care about app features and we’ll give you two or three honest options at different price points.

Most homes land on a 50-amp circuit feeding a 40-amp charger, which covers overnight charging for essentially every EV sold. Larger 60 or 80-amp circuits only help if your vehicle’s onboard charger can actually accept them — many can’t, so it’s wasted money.

Utility and state incentive programs change often, so we won’t promise a specific amount. What we will do is give you an itemized invoice with the equipment and labor broken out, which is what almost every rebate application asks for. Check your utility’s current program before you book.
